The past several moths we have seen a wide range of toys being recalled due to high levels of lead and magnet. Every thing from holloween stuff to barbies and Elmo and dora stuff. So will you think twice before buying any similar product? WIll it affect how much you spend on those toys?? Are you doing any thing different this holiday season?

Honestly, no.
I do watch the recalls and make sure I don’t own things on the list.
Not unless it’s in the video games – my kids are older. It might effect what I get my nieces and nephews, though.
i personally am not going to do anything different… i am not convinced that the lead hasn’t always been on / in the toys… now they say it is in lipstick…?? i am a child from the 70’s and i doubt i made it through childhood without ingesting some lead…
We’re going “homegrown” this year. Anything made entirely in Canada is okay. Even better is supporting local business and buying locally made products. Luckily we live near Mennonite country so there are amazing hand-made toys available for a great price. Frankly, I think that wooden building blocks or a wooden train set is going to help my son more than a talking Elmo doll anyway.
We’ve already removed all made in china toys from our play area, if it may have been painted, it’s gone. No chances on my family!
yes, because i seriously had to throw half of my son’s (who is 2) toys away. i even had to throw away his old crib, i was saving for my next baby, because of recalls. I’m so pissed about all the money wasted. i look up some USA toys, but they aren’t as cool, so yeah i have no idea what to buy anymore, but books…lol….
I don’t know. I’m just worried about buying my daughter ANY new toys to be honest. It’s so scary. I’ve been having trouble figuring out what excactly I SHOULD do.
yea were in the same boat, my mother in law keeps asking me what to get my son for the holidays and I have no idea?! everything is plastic and made in china, let me know if you figure anything out!
i’m not sure. the toys with lead paint are from mattel don’t buy anything from mattel.
I wrote an eassay on it today in history
I haven’t decided what we’ll do for Christmas. The fact is, I’m afraid to buy anything. We don’t spend a huge amount on them anyway, both for economic and for parenting reasons. But still, I want them to get presents and I want them to be safe. So far, we’ve been lucky and haven’t had anything that has been recalled.
